THE AMUSEMENT PARK OF SOFIA (BULGARIA) - SOFIA LAND

Sofia Land is the best amusement park in Sofia, the main city of Bulgaria. It is also known as the best in the all the Balkan area. The place reminds you a little bit of Disney Land, allthough smaller. The park entrance is through a "castle", they have several shows for kids and on weekends they have gigant personajes walking through the park.

The layout of the park is very well thought, it has something interesting for each one of the family member. It has an area for the little ones (from 3 to 10 years aprox.), one for babies (from 1 to 3 years) and one for adults. Even though daily passes are available for 16 Levas (8 Euros) that will allow you free use of all games, we do not recommend this option when visiting with babies and toddlers. In this case, we thought it was better to pay for each ride individually, as the rides for minors are very unexpensive.

SofiaLand is situated in the Vitosha neighbourhood, 8 kilometers from the city centre. Do not get escared by the distance, there is not reason to worry about it in Bulgaria, as taxis are easy to find and very affordable. A taxi ride from the city centre to Sofia Land cost aproximately 7 Levas, the equivalent to 3,5 Euros.

When lunch time comes, you have plenty of options. From a simple hot dog to a full meal at a good restaurant. If your kids are Mc Donald´s lovers, you are also save. In the kids area there is a branch of this chain.

You can enjoy Sofia Land even on a rainny day. Inside the "Castle" there are several stores where you can shop for toys, costumes, newspapers and even cosmetics! There is also a stage where they perform for the kids on the weekends, several restaurants, a store where kidgusano_locos can paint theire own ceramics and several games. In the basement, there is a bar and a pool store. All this is under the castle roof, save from the rain drops.

If you have a toddler and a kid, and you are struggling on how to acompany the older one to the roller coaster meanwhile you take care of the toddler, Sofia Land also has a solution for you. On the 3rd floor of the castle there is a day care, where you can leave the litgusano_locotle one for a couple of hours playing with kids of his/her own age, meanwhile you take a fun ride with the older one.

Sofía Land, with no doubts is an excellent option to spend the day with the family. The only problem is that it is not always available, because they close during the winter time. On 2006, the park will close on October and won't re-open until May 2007. Although this will sound very weird to the ones that live in warmer countries, we need to understand that due to the severe weather conditions that you can have during the Bulgarian winter, it is difficult to imagine that kids would like to take many rides when the termometer marks temperatures way under cero.
